Nutella Bread

It wasn’t so bready and I like the crusty texture in there. And most of all is that because I use Nutella as filling, make a dough, spread the chocolate sweetness as you like, shape as you wish and bake.

That is why called Nutella Bread. All ingredients already there in the pantry, though.

In this recipe, I rolled the dough very thin, the result was crusty bread. If you want to have a thick bread, then you have to roll the dough thicker.

Well yes, I almost forget to tell that I tried to make this bread with tangzhong method. It says that this method makes the texture of the bread softer without using eggs.

Ingredients :

Tangzhong :

  • 50 g flour
  • 250 ml water or milk

Mix them together in a bowl until no lumps. Transfer to saucepan or small pot over low heat. Whisk continuously until thick, look like custard. Have trace when you stir it.

Put in a bowl and cover with plastic wrap, touched the surface. Let it cool. Some people use it when it already cold, some use it after overnight in the fridge.

Chinese bun dough :

  • 300 g plain flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp dried yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp oil
  • water about 160 ml or more

Mix all of them together. Knead for a few minutes, I did less than 5 minutes.

Then, put in a bowl and cover with plastic wrap, let sit in warm place until double in size..

Transfer on floured board and knead again to release the air. Roll out flat.  Spoon some Tangzhong custard and spread over the dough as needed.

Don’t too much. Otherwise you will get a wet dough and difficult to roll it.

Roll into log and let rest for a few minutes, loose cover with plastic wrap or towel.

I use half of the dough and divided into 4 small balls. Roll out each with a rolling-pin, fold like a book and roll flat again. So you have 4 layer thin dough.

Put the first dough on baking sheet with parchment paper, spread with nutella evenly.

Layer with the next dough and repeat the same method. The last dough to cover the top.

Put a cup upside down in the center top of the layer, and cut the dough into 16 cuts. Cut the excess dough on the edge and make something from it ( see a small bun in the top photo). Flatten with hand and fill with nutella then make a ball. Bake together.

Take 2 part and twist to the opposite direction.

Finish the rest.

You see those two in your left hand side ? I tried to make different shape ( I pinch the tip to make it pointed but I don’t like the look so I shape back like the other. There is mark of nutella there, doesn’t so smooth like others.

Cover with a towel about 20 minutes.

Bake for 20 minutes at 180 C preheated oven.

Look like this.


Sprinkle with sugar powder if you like. Enjoy warm, they still soft.

It wasn’t so a big bread since I made only half dough, just fit to put on a dinner plate
